Trip and Fall
The Push Button Heads stumble upon some curious signage on their walk this weekend.
This summer, I’ve been been exploring animation techniques, and this is my latest experiment — loosely inspired by a Push Button Head cartoon I published a couple years ago called “Slip and Slide.”
Frame-by-frame animation is surprisingly tedious. Adding another dimension (time) to a visual, well…, takes a lot of extra time to complete!
But the imperfections give everything a handmade quality, even when done digitally. To give you an idea of the scale, below are all of the keyframes from my 4 second loop, coloured and superimposed on a single layer. It reminds me of a Marcel Duchamp painting.
In Other News
Last Sunday, I joined an online workshop lead by New Yorker cartoonist Liana Finck. The livestream was surprisingly interactive and we were encouraged to sketch and develop our ideas in real-time while sharing our progress with participants. I welcomed the time constraint of trying to turn over a comic quickly. It was a refreshing challenge. Here’s my final sketch from the class. It’s a bit “meta” I’ll admit.
