The Future of Office Work
The Push Button Heads reminisce about the good old days when the “corner office” was still possible.
I launched into this week’s cartoon with a different idea for the caption. This happens often, and I try to follow my instincts and pivot when something feels “off.” It’s no wonder the cartoon caption contest is a thing at The New Yorker.
In my original sketch, I had come up with a quirky piece of nonsensical speech that seemed like a winner. But by the time I had digitally inked and coloured in the final version of my panel, I realized how much the futuristic office background was too distracting. Rather than fight it; I rolled with it. I swapped the caption and made the unusual office setting the punchline. Here’s the initial draft, if you’re curious.
